Spring equinox in 2003 was on March 21, while fall equinox was on September 22, 184 days later. In 2004, a leap year, spring equinox occurs March 20, and if you count the days, you will see that to get there only takes 181 days more.

The vernal or spring equinox occurs around 21 March each year, although this is only spring for observers in the Northern Hemisphere.

Hipparchus made equinox and solstice observations, and according to Ptolemy (Almagest III.4) determined that spring (from spring equinox to summer solstice) lasted 94 + 1/2 days, and summer (from summer solstice to autumn equinox) 92 + 1/2 days.

It and the Spring equinox, advancing westward about 50 arcseconds per year, move about 1 arcminute per year in relation to each other. At this rate, the time between coincidences of the perihelion and equinox is about 21,000 years.
