Astronomy Super giantsSuperclusters

Superclusters are large groupings of smaller galaxy groups and clusters, and are among the largest structures of the cosmos.

Recent Observations have shown that superclusters are distributed in a periodic and ordered fashion, and not in a random or chaotic fashion, as previously thought.
The Milky Way Galaxy belongs to the Local Supercluster.

See Supercluster (genetic) for use of the word in genetics.

Local Supercluster
The collection of clusters consisting of the , and Coma and Virgo clusters.

Superclusters
The clustering phenomenon does not stop with galaxies. Galaxy clusters attract each other to produce superclusters of tens to hundreds of clusters.

supercluster
an enormous congregation of galaxy clusters that stretches across hundreds of millions of light-years
superfluid ...

supercluster Grouping of several clusters of galaxies into a larger, but not necessarily gravitationally bound, unit.
supergiant A star with a radius between 100 and 1000 times that of the Sun.

supercluster: A cluster of galaxy clusters.
supergiant: Exceptionally luminous star 10 to 1000 times the sun's diameter.
supergranule: A large granule on the sun's surface including many smaller granules.

SUPERCLUSTER - Cluster of galactic clusters.
SUPERCONDUCTIVITY - Phenomena by which, at sufficiently low temperatures, a conductor can conduct charge with zero resistance. The current theory for explaining superconductivity is the BCS theory.

Supercluster
A cluster of clusters of galaxies. Superclusters are typically about one hundred million (108) light-years in diameter and contain tens of thousands of galaxies.

Superclusters
After astronomers started grouping galaxies into clusters they noticed that on larger scales the clusters tended to be grouped together in clusters or what we call Superclusters (what a clever name - sounds almost like a superhero).

SUPERCLUSTER
A supercluster is a huge group of up to a thousand galaxies. These tend to be shaped as flattened disks, sheets, or filaments. These superclusters then form surfaces like the surfaces of bubbles, with virtual voids in between (Margaret J.

Galaxy Supercluster
A vast collection of galaxy clusters that may contain tens of thousands of galaxies spanning over a hundred million light-years of space. Galaxy superclusters are the largest structures in the universe.
Globular Cluster ...

(a) The supercluster to which the Local Group belongs. It is shaped like a cigar, with the Virgo cluster of galaxies at its center and the Local Group near one end. [C95] ...

The Local Supercluster contains a huge number of individual galaxies"several tens of thousands"yet the great majority of known galaxy clusters and superclusters lie far beyond its edge. Figure 24.

A material that can conduct electricity with essentially zero resistance.

1953 - Gerard de Vaucouleurs discovers that the galaxies within approximately 200 million light years of the Virgo cluster are confined to a giant supercluster disk, ...

As noted above there are lots of galaxies in this constellation; most of them belonging to the Virgo-Supercluster. One exception is the famous Sombrero Galaxy, M 104. It lies on the border to Corvus.

There have been indications that clusters within superclusters are preferentially aligned, which if true would suggest dynamical processes that can leave a very long-lasting imprint. Following A.

If the acceleration continues indefinitely, the ultimate result will be that galaxies outside the local supercluster will move beyond the cosmic horizon: they will no longer be visible, ...

Overall, the distribution of clusters and superclusters in the universe is not uniform. Instead, superclusters of tens of thousands of galaxies are arranged in long, stringy, lacelike filaments, arranged around large voids.

As CMB photons travel through superclusters of galaxies they first become blueshifted by the cluster's gravity, and upon leaving the cluster become redshifted again.

Groups and Clusters cluster together to form even larger clusters known as Superclusters. The Local Group belongs to the Local Supercluster, whose center is at the Virgo Cluster. Superclusters, on average, span 100 Million Light-years of space.

A galaxy may be alone or it may be in a large group of galaxies called a "supercluster". Galaxies are classified by scientists according to their shape and appearance.

de Vaucouleurs, the local group is part of a supercluster containing at least 50 separate clusters, each having from a few dozen to as many as a thousand galaxies.

In a larger scale, clusters group together to form superclusters. It contains about 100 clusters in 100 Mpc (mega parsec, a million parsecs).

We may live in a matter supercluster within a segregated matter-antimatter Universe.

Although we have talked about hierarchical clustering almost exclusively in the context of the formation of galaxies, it is also an important mechanism on much larger scales - those of galaxy clusters and superclusters.

The constellation is also known for the insufficiently studied Horologium Supercluster, a massive supercluster that stretches approximately 550 million light-years across and contains about 5,000 galaxy groups.

However, outside the Local Supercluster of galaxies, neither individual stars nor clusters of stars have been observed.

In turn, the Local Group belongs to a much larger group of galaxies known as the Virgo Supercluster. The Milky Way lies on the outer edge of the supercluster. The Virgo Supercluster is about 100 million light-years (6x1020 miles) in diameter.

Both stars are members of the HR 1614 supercluster and stellar moving group (Olin Jeuck Eggen, 1998; 1919-98). There is also another visual object at an angular separation of 90.

The Great Attractor is a gravity anomaly in intergalactic space within the range of the Centaurus Supercluster that reveals the existence of a localised concentration of mass equivalent to tens of thousands of Milky Ways, ...

He found one new globular cluster, 5 new open star clusters, one new supercluster of 1,800 galaxies and several new small galaxy clusters, one new comet, about 775 new asteroids, but no new planet except Pluto.

Though large, 10 million light years across, it pales beside an even bigger structure 10 times that size, the Corona Borealis supercluster (of which A2065 is the main member of about 10 related systems) in which thousands of galaxies sprawl across ...

A more important contribution may come from the mass of a "Great Attractor" at a distance of 108 million light-years connected to the Local Supercluster, ...

For example, stars in the Milky Way can group together into open clusters or globular clusters. Galaxies also group together into cluster of galaxies, and the clusters of galaxies group together into superclusters of galaxies.

the Milky Way and the Andromeda Galaxy (about two million light-years away from us in the direction of the sky marked by the constellation Andromeda.) The Local Group is about 3 million light-years across, and is itself part of a "supercluster'' of ...

The Catalog proved of seminal importance to extragalactic astronomy, leading to a better understanding of the nature and properties of clusters of galaxies, and the identification of superclusters and large-scale structure.
