Superior conjunction

Superior Conjunction
a conjunction that occurs when a superior planet passes behind the Sun and is on the opposite side of the Sun from the Earth.

A planet at superior conjunction will be "full" because it presents its fully lit face to Earth, but it also happens to be on the opposite side of the Sun and you know that makes observations impossible.

It is "in superior conjunction" when it is on the opposite side of the Sun from the Earth. A superior planet is "in conjunction" when it is on the opposite side of the Sun from the Earth.
