The lighter-colored regions of the Moon are called terrae, or more commonly just highlands, since they are higher than most maria.

The older regions on the surface of the Moon, covered with rugged terrain pocketed with numerous craters.

Terrae. The lighter-colored regions on the Moon's surface called terrae were seen by the ancients as land masses around the seas. It turns out that they are highlands and are the most ancient regions of the Moon.

Terrae (extensive land masses) are named for goddesses of love.
Undae (dunes) are named for desert goddesses.

Many early medieval manuscripts of Macrobius include zonal maps showing the Ptolemaic climates derived from the concept of a spherical Earth and a diagram showing the Earth (labeled as globus terrae, the sphere of the Earth) at the center of the ...

Two striking features are the continent-sized highland areas, or terrae: Ishtar Terra in the northern hemisphere, and Aphrodite Terra along the equator. Ishtar is roughly the size of Australia, while Aphrodite is comparable in area to South America.

The relatively bright, heavily cratered highlands are called terrae. The craters and basins in the highlands are formed by meteorite impact and are thus older than the maria, having accumulated more craters.

Highlands are sometimes called "terrae" which literally translates as "earth" so I don't like to use that confusing term. I think a better term might be "breccia land" or simply "rubble".
