Theta Eridani

Astronomy Theta DraTheta Oph

ACAMAR (Theta Eridani). Eridanus, the River, the embodiment of the Greek's "River Ocean," unlike real rivers has two ends.

Curiously theta Eridani bears nearly the same name, Acamar. This is a variation on Achernar since this star was once the river's terminus and it then bore the name now carried by alpha Eridani.
Double stars: ...

Other notable stars in Eridanus include [3682] theta Eridani or Acamar ("the last of the river"), a binary pair of blue-white stars 120 light-years distant, [3681] gamma Eridani or Zaurak ("the boat"), a yellow star with an apparent magnitude of 2.

According to Allen, this star, Theta Eridani, was originally recognized as the end of the River Eridanus and therefore bore the name Achernar. This name now applies to Alpha Eridani instead.

Because Omicron1 Eridani was named "The Egg" (Al Baid, now Beid) by the Arabs for its position near the nest of the Ostrich (Theta Eridani 2, which is located much further south), ...
