Acetone is often recommended for the initial cleaning followed immediately by a dry rag. The part should then be cleaned with soap and water to remove any solvents and then dried. Again, follow the directions of the kit manufacturer.
Some form of cellulose acetate or nitrate with more or less softening material is used and to these some suitable solvent as acetone is added.
