ADF Orientation
The pointer end of the ADF navigation unit ALWAYS POINTS TO THE STATION. The degree reading on the display is dependent on the aircraft heading.

U/V ADF: UHF/VHF Automatic Direction Finding.
UHF/VHF Automatic Direction Finding (U/V ADF): An Automatic Direction Finder that determines relative bearing to a transmitter to which it is tuned, in either the UHF band or VHF band.

The ADF indicator does not have a flag to indicate to the pilot if reception is reliable. You will need to listen to the station.
