Aerostat

Aviation AerospaceAEW

Aerostat. A generic terms for aircraft which derive their lift chiefly from buoyancy in the air: lighter than air craft, balloons or airships.

AEROSTAT - A lighter-than-air craft.

AEW - Airborne early warning; aircraft equipped to give maximum advance warning of approaching hostile aircraft.

Aerostats use buoyancy to float in the air in much the same way that ships float on the water.
