In order to keep air traffic flowing smoothly and safely, the nation's air traffic management system has for years been using "airways" in the sky.
Airways = Roadways
Airways often are referred to as "highways in the sky" for a reason. That's because our network of airways and jetways is very much like the national highway system, and both serve the needs of all Americans.
Airway - A corridor of controlled airspace whose centerline is established by radio navigational aids. Low altitude airways (between 3,000 and 18,000 feet Mean Sea Level) are identified by number with the letter V as a prefix.

Airworthy. A term used to denote that an aeroplane has been examined and passed as safe for flying.
Alighting. The act of making contact with water.

Airport and Airway Trust Fund (AATF, Trust Fund) - Created by the Airport and Airway Revenue Act of 1970, the AATF provides funding for improvements to the nation's airports and air traffic control system.
