Angle of Roll. The angle between a line joining the wing-tips and the horizontal.
Angle of Sideslip. The angle between the longitudinal axis of the areoplane and its direction of motion.

 


It is usually counteracted by the pilot with the rudder. Another most import consideration is that the stall speed of the aircraft increases with the angle of roll. Large angles of bank at slow speed may very well result in a stall and spin.

An upper surface spoiler which also acts to reduce lift (equivalent to deflecting an aileron upwards), so causing the aircraft to bank in the direction of the turn - the angle of roll causes the wing lift to act in the direction of turn, ...
