Aspect ratio = wing span² / wing area For example, the Jabiru's aspect ratio (span 7.9 m, area 8.0 m²) = 7.9 × 7.9 / 8 = 7.
Aspect ratio Tags: FAA Pilot's Handbook Aspect ratio. Span of a wing divided by its average chord.
Aspect Ratio The wingspan divided by the chord. Aspect ratio is important where a wing's efficiency is concerned. A short aspect ratio (short wings) is better for maneuvering, since it allows a high roll rate.
ASPECT RATIO - The ratio of the span to the chord of an airfoil—a high-aspect ratio wing has wide span and narrow chord, and vice-versa for a low-aspect ratio wing.
Aspect Ratio. The ration of the span to the mean chord of an aerofoil; the ration of the square of the span to the total area of an aerofoil.
Aspect Ratio The relationship of the wing span to the wing chord, expressed numerically by the number of times the span can be divided by the chord. See also: Vortices.
Low aspect ratio - Short and stubby wing. More efficient structurally, more maneuverable, and with less drag at high speeds. They tend to be used by fighter aircraft and by very high-speed aircraft.
Aspect Ratio - 36-24-36. Autopilot - A would-be airplane pilot who flunked his checkride. Bail Out - Dipping the water out of the cabin after a heavy rainstorm..
Aspect Ratio.-The third factor in wing efficiency has to do with the plan shape. It was early found that square wings were not much good, and that if you made them wide in span like those of a bird, the efficiency was best (see Fig. 23).
aspect ratio - The ratio of the span of the wing to its chord. The aspect ratio of a tapered wing is found by dividing the square of the wingspan by its area.
Where: AR = Aspect Ratio b = Wing Span S = Wing Area c = Wing Chord Increasing the Aspect Ratio, i.e., maximizing the wing span while minimizing the wing's chord, reduces the down wash and the effect of the air spillage around the wing tips.
1 had aspect ratios of 6.8, 5.9 and 5.1 for the upper, middle and lower planes respectively. The wing section (tested as the Gottingen 289 section after the war) had a maximum lift coefficient of about 1.4.
and AR is the aspect ratio. The purpose of the experiment is to determine the parasite drag coefficient CDO and Oswald efficiency e.
1 Power Curve Depends on Aspect Ratio 7.6.2 Sketching the Curve 7.6.3 Some Theory 7.6.4 Power Requirements versus Speed 7.6.5 Power Requirements versus Altitude 7.
This version includes the effects of aspect ratio on lift and some small modifications suggested by users, including the "Rescale" option on the plots. On 1 Dec 00, version 1.4 was released.
The ratio of the length of a wing to its width is called its "aspect ratio," and Wenham had discovered the advantages of high-aspect- ratio airfoils.
In general, the term ducted fan is applied to configurations of small disk area, high rpm, and low aspect ratio (long, narrow ducts), while a shrouded propeller has larger diameter, lower disk loading, lower rpm, ...
In case the two wings have different aspect ratios (different dCL/d-alpha) the NP will be closer to the one that has higher aspect ratio. Also, since the stab operates in disturbed air, the NP will be more forward than the simple formula predicts.
This gives the Warrior a longer wingspan than the Hershey bar wing and, thus, a higher aspect ratio (the proportion of the wingspan and the wing chord).
Climb is especially notable, partially a function of the high-aspect ratio and high wing-loading. Vy is a surprising 63 knots in a fairly flat attitude, but most pilots will be more comfortable with 80 knots or more for the ascent.
Others are wing planform (rectangular, tapered, etc.), wing tips, wing twist (we will discuss this topic, as it seems to be one that is frequently misunderstood or underestimated), wing aspect ratio, or span loading (which seems to be overestimated).
Consolidated also incorporated innovative features: the new design would be the first American bomber to use tricycle landing gear and it had long, thin wings with the efficient "Davis" high aspect ratio design promising to provide maximum fuel ...
To compensate for the different aspect ratio of the main and spot-plane views, I set zoom for this NAV or N version of the panel to 0.71 and leave it there (this and the time-panel setting correspond nicely to a zoom factor of 1.
