Azimuth - An arc of the horizon measured between a fixed point (such as true north) and the vertical circle passing through the center of an object.

 


Azimuth: An angle in the horizontal plane, usually measured with respect to body coordinates.
BALT SEL: Barometric altitude select.

Azimuth. Used in aeronautics usually with respect to instruments to denote angular displacement in a horizontal plane.

AZIMUTH (MLS)- A magnetic bearing extending from an MLS navigation facility.
NOTE: azimuth bearings are described as magnetic and are referred to as "azimuth" in radio telephone communications.

Alignment (Azimuth): The azimuth or actual magnetic bearing of a course.
Alignment (Elevation): The actual angle above a horizontal plane, originating at a specific point of a course used for altitude guidance.

Rotating the azimuth card makes the ADF into a pseudo Radio Magnetic Indicator (RMI) without the remote compass. In the RMI the azimuth card rotates automatically. With the ADF you must set the card to the desired magnetic heading.

Collective System: The primary components in this system are the collective stick, throttle and push-pull control rods connected to the servo flaps through the azimuth assembly.

Since these forecasts always use true azimuth, you need to convert 335 true to 347 magnetic.

VOR- A ground-based electronic navigation aid transmitting very high frequency navigation signals, 360 degrees in azimuth, oriented from magnetic north. Used as the basis for navigation in the National Airspace System.

Very high frequency omnidirectional range (VOR) - Ground-based electronic navaid transmitting 360 azimuth signals on assigned frequencies ranging from 108.0 to 117.9 mHz to serve as the basis for the National Airspace System (NAS).

RADAR- A device which, by measuring the time interval between transmission and reception of radio pulses and correlating the angular orientation of the radiated antenna beam or beams in azimuth and/or elevation, provides information on range, azimuth, ...

A landing approach in which a ground controller gives verbal guidance in azimuth and elevation to a pilot using precision approach radar (PAR) to monitor the aircraft's approach path. Still used by the military, but defunct in civil aviation.

A ground-based navigation aid transmitting very high frequency (VHF) navigation signals 360° in azimuth, on radials oriented from magnetic north.

TACAN - Tactical Air Navigation. A navigational system used by the military. TACAN provides both azimuth and distance information to a receiver on board an aircraft.

VFR night flight might not be an option. Daylight will even be shorter under a broken or overcast cloud ceiling. And as the sun sits at a lower azimuth in the sky, landing or flying headings towards the sun can create visibility problems.

Lon(g): Longitude
LORAN: Long-Range low-frequency Radio Navigation. Its range is about 1,200 nm by day, and 2,300 nm by night.

FLIR pointing can be controlled manually using a tracking handle or automatically by the Mission Computer. FLIR converts a heat image into a video image and determines azimuth, elevation, and sometimes range of a point.
