Bumped - this means that the number of seats on the flight has been oversold. Sometimes you might be lucky and get 'bumped' up to business or first class but more often that not, you will simply be put on the next available flight.

 


BUMPED COWLING - An engine fairing, generally circular, with welts or compound shapes in its surface to accommodate cylinder heads.
CABANE STRUT - Wing strut attached to the fuselage.

Getting bumped can be good or bad! A bump, if you're lucky can mean a bump up, or upgrade to Business or First Class. However, being bumped usually means you will be unable to fly on the flight your ticket was for as it has been oversold.

One thing is certain however: when they bumped the QII up another 150 pounds to 3,100 while holding the empty weight increase to 25 pounds, they created a monster of an airplane.

Gross weights were increased to 2,250 pounds in the 172C (1962), and bumped up another 50 pounds with the introduction of the 172D in 1963.

Denied-Boarding Compensation: Payment given passengers who have been bumped from a flight, cruise, or land-tour. Compensation may be in the form of a free trip, money, or accommodations.
Deponent: The person who testifies at a deposition.

To stay within bounds it is important the descent to the procedure altitude and outbound route be at least "bumped" before beginning the procedure turn outbound. Failure to do this could take you outside protected airspace.

Compensation (money, free flight, or hotel accommodations) provided to an involuntarily bumped airline passenger with a confirmed reservation.
