CALL UP- Initial voice contact between a facility and an aircraft, using the identification of the unit being called and the unit initiating the call.
The call up consists of the name of the facility, his full aircraft call sign and his altitude. Every radar specialist is required to obtain an aircraft's altitude at least once so most want to do it on first contact.
To contact ATC, if there is any doubt15 about what frequency to use, call up on 121.5 MHz. Practically every ATC facility can receive and transmit on that frequency.
