Calm. The absence of any appreciable wind.
Camber. The curvature of the surface and/or centre line of an aerofoil section which causes lift. A heavily cambered aerofoil is usually a high-lift section.

 


In a calm voice, I advised Boston Center of an "engine problem", and asked for assistance into the nearest airfield. The advice from Boston Control was reassuring: there indeed was an airport nearby. "Maintain your altitude Seven-Three Uniform.

On a calm day, the pedals will hardly move in a hover except to counter torque changes, or to yaw the aircraft on purpose.

Under calm wind conditions, the waveless water surface is perhaps the most dangerous to the seaplane pilot and requires precise piloting techniques.

The first time it will be on a relatively calm day so you can develop your short field and spot landing techniques in a real world situation with few distractions.

While these aircraft are slower than most because of the increased drag caused by the large floats below the aircraft, they are very versatile and can be landed anywhere that has a large and relatively calm body of water.

If you see any ice developing on the aircraft get yourself out of these conditions at once. Unless its freezing rain or drizzle (which would require immediate and prompt action) there is no reason to panic, just keep calm.

Time is a very uncertain condition to ascertain in airplane flying for it seems to pass quickly on calm days but slowly when the journey is rough.
