Check-in
All airlines request their passengers to check-in well before the scheduled departure time. Usual check in times are: worldwide flights - two hours; short-haul - from 40 minutes to one hour.

Check-in - the time before departure when your luggage goes onto the airline and boarding cards are issued. For long-haul this is 2 hours whilst short-haul is approximately 1 hour.

CHECK-IN: To confirm intent to board a previously booked flight by showing a ticket to an airline representative either at the ticket counter, curbside baggage check-in or departure gate.

Given the required advanced check-in time, the typical delays and time getting your baggage and finding a ride to your destination, it's not at all uncommon to meet or beat these times when flying a small airplane.

Meanwhile, airlines continue to adapt new technologies to automate check-in procedures. Customers can verify their itineraries, select seat assignments, obtain cabin class upgrades and print their own boarding passes, at their own discretion.

The flight crew duty day starts with check-in, and is considered concluded at block-in plus 15 minutes for that day's final flight. Rest periods are times when the crewmember is not scheduled for flying duty. These are not periods of restful sleep.

The next step for airlines will be to automate the check-in procedure. Electronic self-service check-in computer kiosks at major airports will soon be available for most passengers using electronic tickets.

Restricted To Airport Check-In: Aircraft seat assignments and boarding passes, which can only be secured at time of airport check-in.
