Cloud Base. The height at the bottom of a towering cloud. Cloud Height. The height of the cloud base above the ground at the point indicated.
Computing Cloud Bases Take the difference between the temperature and the dew point. Then divide by the convergence rate (standard convergence is 4.4 per thousand-feet) and multiply by 1000.
Ceiling Zero: Less than 50 feet from the ground to cloud base. CG: Center of Gravity CG: Commanding General Chaff or Window: Metal foil strips dropped for aircraft to disrupt and confuse radar detection.
Cloud suck is typically associated with an increase in thermal updraft velocity near cloud base.
If your flight will take you through hilly or mountainous terrain then pay special attention on cloud bases (ceilings), temperature dew point spread, visibility, freezing level and if any precipitation is forecast for the area.
There is little to no precipitation associated with them but Virga is a common meteorological phenomenon that occurs at and around the cloud base.
