Cloud height

Aviation Cloud baseClouds

Cloud Height. The height of the cloud base above the ground at the point indicated.
Clouds. Clouds, like fog, are caused by condensation of water vapour in the air when it is cooled.

Meteorological observations are of wind, air temperature, cloud amount, cloud cover, cloud height (cloud base and cloud top), and special phenomena; and are important data for numerical weather prediction.

The Automated Surface Observation System provides continuous observations, and measures and reports altimeter settings, wind speed and direction, gusts, temperature, dew point, visibility information, cloud and ceiling data, variable cloud height, ...

The only requirements for VFR flight are a minimum visibility and a specific cloud clearance (and a minimum cloud height for departure in surface based controlled airspace).
