COLLECTIVE PITCH CONTROL - Used to change simultaneously the pitch of all of a helicopter rotor's blades to permit ascent or descent.
...

The collective pitch control or collective is located on the left side of the pilot's seat with a settable friction control to prevent inadvertent movement. The collective changes the pitch angle of all the main rotor blades collectively (i.e.

A constant rotor RPM is achieved by adjusting the collective pitch control so blade acceleration forces from the driving region are balanced with the deceleration forces from the driven and stall regions.

The collective pitch control system may be designed so that the rotor disk tilts slightly left as collective pitch is increased to hover the aircraft.

Pilots are able to adjust angle of attack by moving the cyclic and collective pitch controls. However, even when these controls are held stationary, the angle of attack constantly changes as the blade moves around the circumference of the rotor disk.

An autogyro can easily execute a steep approach to a no-roll landing. If rotor collective pitch control is provided, an autogyro can execute a collective flare; otherwise, landings are always made with a cyclic flare.
