CONTOURS See NOISE CONTOURS.
DAYTIME AVERAGE SOUND LEVEL (DL) - The average sound level during daytime hours between 7:00 am and 9:59 pm. Sometimes symbolized Ld. Used to calculate DNL.

Contours. In maps, the imaginary line joining points of equal height above sea level.

Noise Contours: Lines drawn on a map that connect points of equivalent DNL values. They are usually drawn in 5 dB intervals, such as connections of DNL 75 values, DNL 70 values, DNL 65 values, and so forth.

Grid Analysis - A type of aircraft noise analysis that evaluates the noise levels at individual points rather than through generation of noise contours.

Measure the horizontal distance from the outer skirt fixing to each of these contours.
These contours now have to be plotted on a scale horizontal plan of the craft. Each contour line should be drawn its respective distance from the outer fixing.

Nap of the earth flight (NOE) is a mode of flight in which the pilot must keep the aircraft very close to the ground, following the contours of hills, streams, canyons, and all other land features.

Noise Exposure Map (NEM) - A geographic depiction of an airport, its noise contours for existing conditions and as forecast for five years in the future, and surrounding area developed in accordance with FAR Part 150 guidance.

A milky white appearance following the contours of the surface it forms on. Its brittle and relatively easy to remove for aircraft anti and deice systems.
Clear or Glaze ice ...

The shape of the exposed contours of an aeroplane for the least possible air drag; usually rounded in front, pointed at the rear.
Stressed Skin ...

Although he suffered from a crippling illness, he took a keen interest in aviation. He developed theories about wing contours and aerodynamic principles and built several model aeroplanes, helicopters and ornithopters.

SPAR - A primary structural member of an airfoil surface, from which ribs or frames are mounted to form the desired airfoil contours.

SPINNER - A streamlined fairing over a propeller hub.

The reason the sites of the memorial and of the actual historic flight are different is that the contours of this area have changed over time.
