Density altitude is the altitude in the International Standard Atmosphere at which the air density would be equal to the actual air density at the place of observation.

Density altitude is the combined effect of the factors mentioned above. It is defined as pressure altitude in the standard atmosphere corrected for non standard temperature.

Density altitude is the altitude the airplane thinks it is at and performs in accordance with.

derated - engine's potential power deliberately limited, lengthening likely life.
DETRESFA - distress phase of search and rescue operation.

density altitude - The altitude in the standard atmosphere at which the air has the same density as the air at the point in question.
Depart - The exit of an aircraft by taking off.

DENSITY ALTITUDE - The pressure altitude corrected for temperature deviations from the standard atmosphere. Density altitude bears the same relation to pressure altitude as true altitude does to indicated altitude.

Density altitude is worth knowing for several reasons. For one thing, the TAS/CAS relationship is determined by density. Secondly, engine performance depends strongly on density (as well as pressure and other factors).

Carrying maximum weight loads
Flying high drag configurations such as floats, external stores, weapons, speakers, floodlights, sling loads, etc.
The air is turbulent ...

To find density altitude, either at field elevation or while in flight, enter the graph with pressure altitude at left and temperature at base of graph.

2) KNOW THE DENSITY ALTITUDE WHEN OPERATING HOT AND/OR HIGH. With the G1000, there's no excuse not to be aware of the density altitude when operating from high airports and/or on hot days.

Along with service ceiling and combat ceiling, absolute ceiling is a term used to describe the maximum density altitude that a particular aircraft can operate under Standard Air conditions.

Rate of descent and RPM are stabilized, and the helicopter is descending at a constant angle. Angle of descent is normally 17 degrees to 20 degrees, depending on airspeed, density altitude, wind, the particular helicopter design, and other variables.
