DISCRETE FREQUENCY- A separate radio frequency for use in direct pilot-controller communications in air traffic control which reduces frequency congestion by controlling the number of aircraft operating on a particular frequency at one time.

They have ground-to-air communication on a discrete frequency or the tower frequency when the tower is closed.

2 MHz, coverage should be available above 5,000 ft (1,500 m) over most of the US However, it is recommended to consult directories, charts or databases to find the discrete frequency of the nearest FSS outlet while in flight.
