For example, if DOPEY is the final approach fix for runway 6, do not report “DOPEY inbound”, but rather “five mile final for runway 6”.

The pilot has an option to be vectored to the final approach fix (FAF) or to shoot the entire approach. Normally the vectors are chosen because it saves time and money rather then shooting a long and tiresome approach.
The point on a published ILS approach expressed in time or distance from the final approach fix, or as an altitude on the glideslope, at which the missed approach procedure must be initiated if the runway or approach lights are not clearly in sight.
Final Approach (IFR): The flight path of an aircraft that is inbound to the airport on an approved final instrument approach course, beginning at the final approach fix or point.
