Controlled Firing Area - 14 CFR 1.1
A controlled firing area is established to contain activities, which if not conducted in a controlled environment, would be hazardous to nonparticipating aircraft.

 


FIRING - An addition to an aircraft's basic structure which is intended primarily to reduce drag.

FLAP - Most usually awing trailing-edge movable surface which can be deployed partially to increase lift, or completely to increase drag.

Of course firing is not truly random, even if the aircraft can't be seen. By sound or just guessing, isolating the firing region to about â…-th of the sky might be possible.

b. Controlled Firing Area- Airspace wherein activities are conducted under conditions so controlled as to eliminate hazards to nonparticipating aircraft and to ensure the safety of persons and property on the ground.

It is usual to have one gun fixed to the body and firing through the propeller in the case of a tractor, and a second adjustable aim gun pointing upwards over the top wing.

The engine should be run slowly to make sure that it is firing on all cylinders and then speeded up to be sure that it develops good power.

Interrupter Gear: An obsolete gear designed to make possible the firing of a machine-gun or guns through the disc of a revolving propeller.
