FISHTAILING - A rudder-controlled side-to-side [yawing] motion to reduce air speed, generally prior to landing.
Fishtailing. Swinging the tail of an aeroplane from one side to another when coming in to land in order to shorten the glide and landing run. It is an alternative manÅ"uvre to sideslipping.
Fishtailing Fish tailing is a series of sideslips where the wings are held level in the approach attitude while the aircraft is repeatedly yawed from side to side by applying full alternate rudder. The increased drag increases the sink rate.
Aborting the takeoff, the crew tried to control the 'fishtailing' and activate the drag chute. The chute didn't work and the Learjet ran off the runway, its tires blown.
