Some pilots say they use a spot on the windshield as a form of gunsight to initiate and then hold a constant flight path angle. However, if one examines this technique in detail, some of its problems become readily apparent.

All other states such as altitude and flight path angle are approximated as infinitely fast compared to the specific energy dynamics. This assumption allow the solution of optimal trajectories in a relatively simple form.

The glide angle will be very steep (helpful when there are obstacles in the way) and you will need to add power to reduce the flight path angle. Maintain power until touch down especially so in crosswinds.

of 100-1,000 ft; uses a g-command from the Multi-Mode Radar to generate a flight director cue. This controls the aircraft flight path so that the set clearance altitude is achieved over major high points in the terrain with zero flight path angle.
