Flying-boat (Boat Seaplane). A seaplane in which the main body or hull provides the means of support on the water.
FLYING-BOAT - A heavier-than-air craft which is supported on the water by its water-tight fuselage.
FLYING WIRES (LIFT WIRES) - External bracing wires, usually of streamline section, which carry the weight of the fuselage in flight.
Possibly the first flying-boat to utilize the gull wing configuration was the Short Knuckleduster, which flew in 1933. The Dornier Do 26, a high-speed airliner and transport platform, of which 6 aircraft were built, flew in 1938.
