Flying wires: Weren't they supposed to die out several decades ago, right after Rutan ushered in the age of the foambuilt?

 


FLYING WIRES - Interplane bracing wires that help support wingloads when the plane is in flight. Direction of travel is upward and outward from the fuselage to the interplane struts. Also known as LIFT WIRES, the opposite of LANDING WIRES.

Flying Wires. Those bracing wires in a biplane which transfer the lift of the wings to the main structure. Also known as "lift wires." They extend diagonally outwards and upwards.

FLYING WIRES (LIFT WIRES) - External bracing wires, usually of streamline section, which carry the weight of the fuselage in flight.

Flying Wires, or Load Wires (Double).-The wires which support the body or fuselage from the planes when in flight.
18. Drift Wires.

When this point has been checked off, the flying wires should be examined, one after the other. on those types of machines where double flying wires are used, it is imperative that equal attention be paid to each wire.
