Instrument Landing System (ILS)
Provides radio-based horizontal and vertical guidance to an aircraft approaching a runway. It is used to guide landing aircraft during conditions of low visibility.

Instrument Landing System (ILS) − An electronic system installed at some airports which helps to guide pilots to runways for landing during periods of limited visibility or adverse weather.

Ground speed: Actual speed of an airplane as measured relative to the ground.
GS: Glideslope. Vertical guidance, part of an ILS, establishing the safe glidepath to a runway. A standard ILS glideslope is 3 degrees.

Pilots have shown impairment in their ability to fly an ILS approach or to fly IFR, and even to perform routine VFR flight tasks while under the influence of alcohol, regardless of individual flying experience.
