LANDING MINIMUMS- The minimum visibility prescribed for landing a civil aircraft while using an instrument approach procedure.

 


If conditions are below landing minimums but above takeoff minimums we must have an alternate airport that is within one-hour flight time. Taking off in zero-zero Part 91 is legal but you must know where you will go if something stops working.

Touchdown zone elevation (TDZE). The highest elevation in the first 3,000 feet of the landing surface, TDZE is indicated on the instrument approach procedure chart when straight-in landing minimums are authorized.

A straight in instrument approach is one where the final approach is begun without first having executed a procedure turn, not necessarily completed with a straight-in landing or made to straight-in landing minimums.
