LORAN-C is a long-range radio navigation system that uses ground waves transmitted at low frequency to provide user position information at ranges of up to 600 to 1,200 nautical miles at both en route and approach altitudes.

Pilots need to be aware that the new GPS and older LORAN-C receivers can have different control functions, programming, data displays, and operating procedures.

These are: VHF Omni directional range (VOR), nondirectional radio beacon (NDB), Long Range Navigation (Loran-C), Global Positioning System (GPS).
