LORAN

Aviation LOPLoran-c

LORANs future is quite uncertain as GPS is taking over as navigation system. Personally I think it would be a good backup to satellite based navigation as LORAN signals are strong and difficult to jam.

Loss of Control Inflight (ICAO Definition) ...

LORAN. See long range navigation.
Low or medium frequency. A frequency range between 190-535 kHz with the medium frequency above 300 kHz.

LORAN
If you have non IFR LORAN or GPS they can be used as advisory. LORAN like GPS can fly you into terrain unless it has the correct data base.

LORAN - Long Range Navigation system, which utilizes timing differences between multiple low-frequency transmissions to provide accurate latitude/longitude position information to within 50'.

LORAN- An electronic navigational system by which hyperbolic lines of position are determined by measuring the difference in the time of reception of synchronized pulse signals from two fixed transmitters.
