Low Frequency Automatic Direction Finding: Equipment that determines bearing to a radio station on a low frequency band, usually the standard AM band.

Low frequency radio 200-1600 KHz with both loop and sense antennas. Not limited to line-of-sight but by power. HH power good for 200 miles down to compass locator or locator outer marker (LOM) at 15 miles.

VLF - very low frequency. Radio frequencies in the 3-30 kHz band
VLF/Omega - worldwide system of long-range navigation using VLF radio transmission.

Thunderstorm lightning is most noticeable in these low frequency bands and can give a short burst on the indicator, it momentarily points to the storm.

BACKBLAST - Noise generated by jet exhaust on takeoff characterized by high acoustic energy, low frequency, and high velocity air behind the aircraft engine.
