Mainplane: A complete main lifting surface of an aeroplane or glider.
Main Step: A discontinuity in the under surface of a float or hull designed to help the seaplane "unstick" from the water.

replacement life of lower mainplane centre section tie-rods..." on the venerable old SV4 Stampe. They give the metric wires with cut threads a total allowable life of only 100 hours, while the same wire with a rolled thread is given 500 hours.

The front, usually fixed section of the tailplane is called the horizontal stabilizer and is used to balance and share lifting loads of the mainplane dependent on centre of gravity considerations by limiting oscillations in pitch.

The angle of attack of the slat being less than that of the mainplane, there is a smooth airflow over the slat which tends to smooth out the eddies forming over the wing.

Four Lewis machine-guns: One was on a Scarff ring-mounting on the nose cockpit; another was mounted in the upper rear cockpit behind the wings; and one in each waist position. Two 230 lb. bombs were carried in racks under the lower mainplane.
