Normal Axis: A line passing through the centre of gravity of an aerodyne which is vertical in straight and level flight.
Reference 17 calls the Z axis the normal axis, since it is normal (i.e. perpendicular) to the other axes — but that isn't very helpful since every one of the axes is normal to each of the others.
