Occlusion: A meteorological term for the "front" (that is, junction between masses of warm and cold air) which remains after a cold front has met a warm front and the latter has been forced upwards.
In Canada, the term upper front refers to a non-occlusion situation. Sometimes, cold air advancing across the country may encounter a shallow layer of colder air resting on the surface or trapped in a topographical depression.
