OROCA- An off-route altitude which provides obstruction clearance with a 1,000 foot buffer in nonmountainous terrain areas and a 2,000 foot buffer in designated mountainous areas within the United States.
Check the OROCA (off-route obstruction clearance altitudes). Even certified GPS is considered supplemental and you must have VORs as well. ATC will issue direct clearances to navaids or fixes that are IAP (initial approach fixes).
