PLANFORM - or plan view is a vertical orthographic projection of an object on a horizontal plane, like a map. In aviation, a planform is the shape and layout of an airplane's wing and fuselage.
The wing planform is the silhouette of the wing when viewed from above.

Top shows the wing as viewed from above looking down onto the planform. The flow is from bottom to top. Since FoilSim only solves for the two-dimensional flow past objects, you won't see any flow in this view.

Rotary Wing Planform
Common terms used to describe the helicopter rotor system are shown here. Although there is some variation in systems between different aircraft, the terms shown are generally accepted by most manufacturers.
If a wing has a more tapered planform the stall is more prone to occur nearer to the wingtips. Wing washout (were there wing angle of incidence is higher at the root) or stall strips are therefore used to make sure that the stall starts at the root.
Others are wing planform (rectangular, tapered, etc.), wing tips, wing twist (we will discuss this topic, as it seems to be one that is frequently misunderstood or underestimated), wing aspect ratio, or span loading (which seems to be overestimated).
The wing is a beautiful, quarter-elliptical design, an arcing, graceful planform unlike anything most pilots have seen before.
