Prohibited area. Designated airspace within which flight of aircraft is prohibited.

Prohibited Area - Airspace designated under FAR Part 73 within which no person may operate an aircraft without the permission of the using agency. It is most always distinctly marked on the VFR sectional maps.

PROHIBITED AREA An airspace area where flight is prohibited except by prior arrangement with the controlling agency. An example is the P-56 area over downtown Washington, D.C., prohibiting flight over the White House.

PROHIBITED AREA [ICAO]- An airspace of defined dimensions, above the land areas or territorial waters of a State, within which the flight of aircraft is prohibited.

TPA: Temporary Prohibited Area. Airspace closed to unauthorised aircraft (and see Controlled Airspace).

Special use airspace (SUA) includes prohibited areas, restricted areas, warning areas, military operations areas (MOAs), alert areas, and controlled firing areas.

It defines prohibited areas alone with uncontrolled areas and the requirements for flying in both. More importantly to pilots it defines the experience they need in order to stay current.
