RADAR IDENTIFICATION- The process of ascertaining that an observed radar target is the radar return from a particular aircraft.

A radar system comprising a ground-based transmitter/receiver which interrogates a compatible unit in the aircraft (the transponder), providing instant radar identification without having to manoeuvre.
