Radar Separations
ATC applies differing separations depending on the wake turbulence category of the leading aircraft and the equipment available to them to provide separation eg, radar. The tables given below are issued by ICAO.

 


RADAR SEPARATION-

RADAR SERVICE- A term which encompasses one or more of the following services based on the use of radar which can be provided by a controller to a pilot of a radar identified aircraft.

Above 29,000 feet, when aircraft are cruising at high speeds in the en route airspace, the standard is five miles of horizontal radar separation or 2,000 feet of vertical separation.

a pilot sees the other aircraft involved, and upon instructions from the controller, provides his own separation by maneuvering his aircraft as necessary to avoid it. Visual Separation requires less spacing between aircraft than radar separation ...
