The Royal Aircraft Factory S.E.5/5a, rival of the Camel for the title of the most successful British fighter of the First World War, was designed by H. P. Folland, J. Kenworthy and Major F. W. Goodden. and the prototype S.E.

 


Royal Aircraft Factory: The predecessor of the Royal Aircraft Establishment. In the same way that the Admiralty is responsible for the design of warships, it was thought at one time that military aircraft should be Government designed.

Geoffrey de Havilland was one of the early ace pilots. He worked at the Royal Aircraft Factory and developed the BE 2 from the BE 1 in 1913. Perhaps he is best known for the DH60 Moth and the derivatives of this famous type.

RAF - (I) Royal Air Force, or (II) Royal Aircraft Factory.

Such aircraft included the Vickers F.B.5 Gunbus, the Royal Aircraft Factory F.E.2 and the Airco DH.2. (Germany did not have the same requirement due to the early development of Fokker's interrupter gear.) ...
