Aviation ScreeningScud running

Scud running is, like Russian roulette, a dangerous game. With reduced visibility only the foolhardy flirt with Mother Nature.
When the visibility is unrestricted beneath the clouds, a look-see may (with a strong emphasis on may) be tried. Be careful.

Scud A low cloud layer, usually very patchy. To "scud run" is to fly just below a layer of low clouds.
Spin A maneuver in which an aircraft is descending in a stall and rotating. It may be performed intentionally or accidentally.

SCUD - A low, foglike cloud layer.
SEAPLANE - A water-based aircraft with a boat-hull fuselage, often amphibious. The term is also used generically to define a similar Flying Boat and a pontoon FLOATPLANE.

Scud: Ragged pieces of cloud drifting rapidly in a strong wind. Scud is seen during stormy weather.
Sea Breeze: Because land heats more rapidly than water, air moves in from the sea, generally during the day from the heat of the sun.

F-15C, D, and E models were deployed to the Persian Gulf in 1991 in support of Operation Desert Storm where they accounted for 36 of the 39 Air Force air-to-air victories. F-15Es were operated mainly at night, hunting SCUD missile launchers and ...
