SIGMET:
A SIGMET is short for 'significant metrological information'. It's significant weather information, which applies to the safety of all aircraft. SIGMET's consists of two different kinds; convective and non-convective.

 


Convective SIGMET. Weather advisory concerning convective weather significant to the safety of all aircraft, including thunderstorms, hail, and tornadoes.

SIGMET - warning of severe weather conditions (active thunderstorms, hail, severe turbulence, icing etc.) issued my Met offices.

SIGMET
A severe aviation weather advisory. The same sorts of things that would cause an AIRMET to be issued can cause a SIGMET to be issued, though a SIGMET means that the conditions are significantly more severe.

SIGMET
A SIGnificant METeorological advisory that warns of phenomena that affect all aircraft. SIGMET advisories cover severe and extreme turbulence, severe icing, and widespread dust or sandstorms that reduce visibility to less than 3 miles.

SIGMET- A weather advisory issued concerning weather significant to the safety of all aircraft. SIGMET advisories cover severe and extreme turbulence, severe icing, and widespread dust or sandstorms that reduce visibility to less than 3 miles.

Information, is a concise description of the occurrence or expected occurrence of specified en route weather phenomena which may affect the safety of aircraft operations, but at intensities lower than those which require the issuance of a SIGMET.

Airman's Meteorological Information (AIRMET): An in-flight weather advisory concerning weather phenomena of less severity than that covered by SIGMETs, which are potentially hazardous to certain aircraft, e.g.

SIGMET is a more inclusive type of advisory.
Alternate: Airport indicated on a flight plan where it is possible to divert the aircraft from its scheduled destination (in case of bad weather or any other major situation).
