What is slow flight?
Much has been written about slow flight in flight training textbooks and verbally stated in video/DVD training programs.

Slow Flight - Level, Turning, Climbing and Descending
Stall entries and recoveries from various flight attitudes
Advanced Turning - Maximum Rate Turns ...

In slow flight, in the landing configuration, make a note of the angle of attack. This is the angle of attack you want to have when you touch down on the runway. Remember the pitch attitude that goes with this angle of attack.

Jessica felt that slow flight and landing characteristics were similar to that of the older Skyhawk model, but she was still impressed with the new airplane's tighter controls and slightly quicker response.

Slow flight. At stall speed plus no more than seven to ten knots, make turns right and left, then climb and descend to get a feeling for how speed-stable it is and how much you have to lead both altitude and speed changes.
Stalls.

After all, landings are the reason we teach ground reference maneuvers, slow flight, stall recovery, and most of the other skills learned in basic training. Therefore, from day one, a student is learning to land.

The illustration clearly shows that the wing with slats and flaps is the solution for slow flight where high lift is required, and also has little drag penalty in cruise.

The various stiffening formats and the wing's simplicity of design and ease of construction, along with its capability of slow flight and its gentle landing characteristics, did not go unnoticed by hang glider enthusiasts.

Make sure you are proficient with minimum radius and maximum rate turns (max rates), slow flight and soft/short field take-offs and stabilized landings. Get an instructor and do them dreaded crosswind landings and take-offs.

An approach speed in the range of 80--90 KIAS (gear down) may be regarded as both medium and slow flight speed for the purposes of this book.
