Small aircraft pilots and charter pilots perform their own flight planning and submit their flight plans to the Flight Service Station (FSS) that services their departure airport. The FSS enters the flight plan information into their system.

SMALL AIRCRAFT
aircraft of 12,500 pounds or less, maximum certificated takeoff weight

Small aircraft can be designed and constructed by amateurs as homebuilts, such as Chris Neil's Woody Helicopter. Other aviators with less knowledge make their aircraft using pre-manufactured kits, assembling the parts into a complete aircraft.

Our small aircraft have a wing chord, which is the "length" to use when talking about airfoils, of some 5 ft. equivalent to 1.5 m.
Thus the Reynolds number simplifies to:
Re = (.45 x vmph x 1.5) / (15 x 10-6) = 4.5 vmph ...

Like the ailerons on a small aircraft, the elevator is connected to the control column in the flight deck by a series of mechanical linkages. Aft movement of the control column deflects the training edge of the elevator surface up.

CARSON'S SPEED - The term Carson’s speed refers to the paper “Fuel Efficiency of Small Aircraft' (AIAA-80-1847, 1980) by Professor Bud Carson of the U.S.

Generally the wing of small aircraft will look like the cross-section of the figure above. The forward part of an airfoil is rounded and is called the leading edge. The aft part is narrow and tapered and is called the trailing edge.

Pilots of small aircraft, as well as crews of larger aircraft, must make effective use of all available resources; human resources, hardware, and information.

Also note that in many small aircraft, passengers are at a mechanical disadvantage because they are seated farther from the pivot point (the center of mass) than the pilots are.

AIRMET: Announcement of weather conditions that will effect small aircraft.
Actual: Flying in actual instrument weather conditions, in contrast to simulated instrument conditions (see 'hood') ...

small certificated air carrier - An air carrier holding a certificate issued under section 41102 of Title 49 of the U.S. Code that provides scheduled passenger air service with small aircraft (maximum passenger capacity of 60 seats or fewer or a ...

For example, when prevailing low ceilings are forecast or observed over a given area an IFR AIRMET is issued. Though AIRMETs are nominally for all aircraft, they are much more significant for small aircraft.

Places like airports near the sea or large bodies of water, and for example in New Zealand when northwesterlies are blowing or locations where tornados are common, are known for this phenomenon. In fact, small aircraft parked outside during high ...

About that time (2003) I attended my first air show and concentrated on photographing every aircraft I could find. Taking pictures of an airplane certainly wasn't the same as getting to fly one. With all of two small aircraft rides under my belt, ...

For example, if by design an airplane must be able to accelerate vertically upwards then the thrust must be greater than the weight and drag combined. In small aircraft the weight/thrust ratio is about. 10:1.

As I leaned forward to lift a bite on my fork, the 152 started a gentle descent. It was part of the fun of being in such a small aircraft. Ground handling, thanks to the aircraft's light weight, is a back- and muscle-friendly experience.
