Strain: The distortion of any body caused by forces acting on it.
Stratosphere: The outer layer of the atmosphere beginning at about 35,000ft defined as the strata of air in which the temperature gradient remains constant - at about -70°F.

Fuel Strainers
Pilot drain a sample of fuel from each fuel tank and the aircraft's fuel system before every flight, to verify the type of fuel being used and look for water or other contamination.

Strain gage for measuring stick force in longitudinal channel.
The potentiometers for measuring the angle of attack and angle of sideslip are mounted in a common boom fitted on the right wing tip.

Fuel strainer:
It would be wise to fill your fuel into the tank through a fuel strainer. These units come sometimes with fuel tank's but are more or less just a fine filter. Some fuel funnels have strainer fix installed.

AGSM- Ainti-G Straining Maneuver - perform this maneuver to avoid losing consciousness
AFRC- Air Force Reserve Command, Robins AFB, GA. Previously referred to as AFRES.

cumulative stress/strain in aging aircraft
or just poor care and maintenance of the airframe.

This is very important, for if one wire is tightened against another wire, an unnecessary and possibly a dangerous strain may be put upon some member.

G-Suit: Form-fitting "Anti-G" suit inflated with water or air to restrain blood flow during high-speed manouevers.
GAF: German Air Force (Luftwaffe)
Gaggle: Collection or assemblage of flying aircraft in loose formation.

It provides for a rectangular crimp around the wire for a more uniform compression across the wire, and a diamond pattern around the insulation of the wire to provide strain relief.

If a kit isn't being used when building in aluminum, chances are there will be some fairly extensive shearing and forming to be done and some of those operations do strain the skill envelope.

Hiram Maxim's Giant, which strained against the rail restraint that kept it from flying. In this artist's version, the machine is breaking through the rail, but is it aloft?

Pilots still need to practice the 'G-straining maneuver' that consists of tensing the abdominal muscles in order to tighten blood vessels so as to reduce blood pooling in the lower body. High G is not comfortable, even with a G-suit.

16, the brake shoes are attached not to the floor, but to the airplane itself. Even if the engine is producing torque (straining against its engine mounts) all the torques flow in a closed circuit and cancel.

Set the helicopter on a flat surface, such as a driveway or patio. Do not place it in grass; grass can restrain the skids or landing gear while you are trying to set the trim.

These events placed a severe strain on the airlines as passenger demand fell against a backdrop of rising capacity and soaring fuel prices.

Another was the Middle Eastern oil embargo in 1973, which led to skyrocketing fuel costs and contributed generally to price inflation. Both coincided with an economic downturn that put severe strain on the airlines.

take care of individual functions of aircraft management such as financing, maintenance, crew management, and other functions. Most companies that employ fleet managers tend to use an out-sourced fleet manager provider which helps to reduce strain on ...

When metal is loaded beyond its elastic limit and permanent distortion does result, it is referred to as strained.

Not only did the engine produce less horsepower, but it also imposed unacceptable strain and stress on all the rotary parts. Today, parts for the GO-300 engine are harder to find.

The hand pump should be tested to make sure that it is in proper working condition. If a strainer or filtering device is included in the fuel pipe line this should be emptied from time to time to clean out any water or sediment that may be trapped ...
