Tactical air navigation (TACAN). An electronic navigation system used by military aircraft, providing both distance and direction information.

Tactical Air Navigation (TACAN) - A navigational system used by the military. TACAN provides both azimuth and distance information to a receiver on board an aircraft.

Tactical Air Navigation (TACAN).
A basic guidance mode, providing lateral guidance to a TACAN station; Equipment that determines range and bearing to a radio station with a TACAN transmitter;

TACTICAL AIR NAVIGATION- An ultra-high frequency electronic rho-theta air navigation aid which provides suitably equipped aircraft a continuous indication of bearing and distance to the TACAN station.

TACAN: Tactical Air Navigation system. An ultra-high frequency electronic navigation aid which provides suitably-equipped aircraft with a continuous indication of bearing and distance to the selected Tacan station.

"Tacan" stands for "Tactical Air Navigation" and is a system which, working in the u.h.f. band, between 962 and 1,214 Mc/s, gives to a pilot continuous information as to his range and bearing from a beacon.

VORTAC - VOR + TACAN (Tactical Air Navigation); combined radio navigation aids.
VSI - Vertical Speed Indicator. A panel instrument that gauges rate of climb or descent in feet-per-minute (fpm). Also Rate Of Climb Indicator.

Distance Measuring Equipment: Equipment for measuring distance, usually from an aircraft to a ground station; usually part of a Tactical Air Navigation System.
