Take-off

Aviation TakeoffTake-off distance available

Take-off and Landing distance factors
Most aircraft accidents occur during the take-off and landing phase of the flight. Collisions with obstacles during climb out, runway overruns on landing occur every now and then.

Constant Torque On Take-off (CTOT) assists a pilot in setting take-off power by electronically adjusting fuel to maintain a pre-selected torque.

Take-Offs
Tricycle Gear
The takeoff and initial climb-out are one constant maneuver. But let's look at them in each of three steps: takeoff roll, liftoff and climb-out.

Take-off - normal and crosswind with Flight Manual flap settings
Climbing (best angle/best rate) - turns onto headings, level off
ATC liaison-compliance, radio procedures, airmanship ...

Take-off: The movement of aircraft from a position of rest to the moment they are airborne.
Tanks: Fuel containers on aircraft.
Taxying: Manoeuvring aircraft on the ground or on water.

TAKE-OFF RUN AVAILABLE [ICAO]- The length of runway declared available and suitable for the ground run of an aeroplane take-off.
TARGET- The indication shown on a radar display resulting from a primary radar return or a radar beacon reply.

Take-off waiting point near the runway
Intercome
Communication system for cockpit communication ...

TAKE-OFF WEIGHT - Maximum allowable weight of an aircraft at the beginning of its take-off run.

THRUST - Force which propels an aircraft through the air; generated by conventional propeller or the jet efflux of a turbine engine.

TORA: Take-off Run Available.
TORR: Take-off Run Required.
TPA: Temporary Prohibited Area. Airspace closed to unauthorised aircraft (and see Controlled Airspace).

Short take-off / Landing
To best achieve short take-off performance, the wing's high angle of attack must be achieved at or near the ground, and we thus need a general aircraft configuration that permits this high angle of attack.

TODA - take-off distance available. Also TODR, take-off distance required, and TORA, take-off
run available.
track - actual flight path of an aircraft over the ground.

Landing and take-off slots
A landing and/or take-off time at an airport.

Flaps: Control surfaces of inner wings to increase lift on take-off/manouevring and braking upon landing.
Flat-hatting: High speed flying on the "Deck".

V1: decision speed, up to which it should be possible to abort a take-off and stop safely within the remaining runway length. After reaching V1 the take-off must be continued.
VA: design manoeuvring speed.

We want to fly as quickly as possible (short take-off), thus need high lift at low speed.
We want to have full control of the aircraft as soon as airborne and throughout the whole speed range.

The problems involve aspects of cruising flight and aircraft take-off.
RocketModeler - Model Rocket Simulator RocketModeler is an interactive computer program that lets you design and flight test a model rocket.

They are most dangerous during the landing or take-off phase of flight because of the aircrafts close proximity of the aircraft to the ground. A microburst is a basically a localized column of sinking air, producing damaging divergent winds.

At an airport with a nice long runway, taxi into position for take-off. Pull the yoke all the way back, as you would for a soft-field takeoff.

The engine running on-load of aircraft is an expedient method of loading paratroopers for immediate take-off and subsequent drop on a nearby drop zone.

You'll be asked to make a minimum of five take-off and landings to a full stop.

SEGMENT Describes the unit of flight between take-off and landing. Sometimes used interchangeably with the term leg.

Wake turbulence associated with larger aircraft flying at slow speeds (as on take-off or landing approach) is the most severe and can cause loss of control for smaller aircraft following close behind.

Its maximum take-off weight was 41,529 lbs, with a wing span of 137 ft, 1 in, length of 82 ft 4 in and a wing area of 2,523 sq. ft. The TB-3's main armament, apart from its fighter "parasites" was two 7.

An area at the end of the take-off run available, selected or prepared as a suitable area over which an aircraft may make a portion of its initial climb to a specified height. ICAO ...

The Groen Brothers Hawk 4 design of 1992 is advertised as possessing "Ultra-Short Take-Off and Landing" (USTOL) capability, enabling the aircraft to take off and land within a very short distance (25 feet).

take-off, climbing, landing, turning, etc. A project is also underway to instrument the six seater Saratoga airplane for on-board recording of aircraft motion and control variables and thereby make a variable quality flight data required for ...

WING LOADING - The maximum take-off gross weight of an aircraft divided by its wing area.
YAW - Of the three axes in flight, this specifies the side-to-side movement of an aircraft on its vertical axis, as in skewing. Compare PITCH and ROLL.

A wheeled frame that a model sits on to effect a take-off. The dolly either remains on the ground or drops off almost immediately.
Dope
See: Cellulose Dope.

JUMP SEAT - A retractable seat where the flight attendants sit for take-off and landing.
LAYOVER - Free time between flights where the crew rests in a hotel ...

An inspection conducted by a qualified person, immediately prior to take-off, to determine if an aircraft's critical surfaces are contaminated by frost, ice, slush or snow. This inspection is mandatory under some circumstances.

Typically measured from touchdown until it taxis off or from taxiing onto a runway until the aircraft leaves the ground during take-off. Average ROT is a necessary variable in calculating a runway’s capacity.

Ader seemed to think he had been the first to fly, but those seriously involved in the field would say only that this had marked the first take-off of a heavier-than-air craft moving under its own power, ...
