Needle Valve This is used to tune the fuel to air mixture on the engine carburetor. On most engines, the needle is turned clockwise to lean the mixture, and counterclockwise to richen.

LUNKENHEIMER VALVE - A manual fuel drain placed handily along a fuel line for checking avgas, such as for water or sediment contaminations.

A fuel selector valve located inside the cockpit allows the pilot to select which tank(s) are to be in use during flight.

Suction relief valve. A relief valve in an instrument vacuum system required to maintain the correct low pressure inside the instrument case for the proper operation of the gyros.

After the selector valve there usually is a gascolator: a fuel filter that can be drained. Drainage points are usually in each tank (often more than one per tank) at the fule filter and at the injection pump.

One of the exhaust valves could be burned or stuck, so it won't fully close.
One of lobes on the camshaft could be worn, so a valve won't fully open.
The magneto timing could be not quite right.
There could be a bird's nest in the air intake.

Most of us will be stuck with a stock style fuel tank since they need to be USCG approved to qualify for a marine craft , you look at a common layout of 3/8" pick up line with anti syphon valve as "Pick up".

The valve was invented by Professor Charles, who also originated the hoop and net from which the car is suspended. The guide or trail rope for preventing loss of gas and ballast was introduced by the celebrated British aeronaut Mr.

The clearance between the valve operating mechanism and the stems of the intake and exhaust valves should be checked over. All wiring must be clean and the insulation whole. It is important that all connections be tight.

Prepare the cork by drilling a hole the size of the tire valve stem. Insert the tire valve stem from the wide part of the cork. Use the hot glue gun to seal the stem in the cork.

MULTI-PORT FUEL INJECTION (MPFI or MFI) -Multi-port fuel injection is a system that injects fuel into the intake port just upstream of the intake valve rather than at a central point within an intake manifold.

During the taxi runs, check the brakes, the steering and get familiar with the noise level, seat belt fastening and release, control position (carburetor heat, fuel valve, trim, mixture, etc.) and the important instruments such as air speed and rpm, ...

It's a sad state of affairs when it's far easier for older pilots to have new knees installed in their vintage bodies than to have new fuel valves installed in their vintage airplanes.

They are: Fuel flow valve "on" and mixture control "rich"; prime as required. Master electrical switch "on" and magneto switch to "both". Throttle advanced ¼". Visually and verbally "clear" the area around the airplane.

Fuel from each wing tank flows by gravity to selector valve. Depending upon the setting of the selector valve fuel from the left , right or both tanks flows through fuel strainer and carburetor to engine induction system.

Some aircraft (C-150, C-152) have two fuel tanks but one fuel on/off valve. Fuel should be drawn from both tanks but due to turbulence, aircraft out of balance the fuel level will be drawn unequally from the tanks.

Check that no cracks are present, and if they are that they have been properly stop drilled by a mechanic. We are not concerned by the valve cover (with "Lycoming" on it) but by the sheet metal around the valve covers.

All that's required is the ability to understand simple DC electrical circuits, an understanding of what a diode does in this system (it's an electrical check valve that only lets electrical current flow in one direction), and a little time.

Burn marks between the fins in the areas of the valves, for instance, makes a cracked jug a possibility. Rust inside an intake port throws doubt on the storage provisions.

When I switched the alternate air, all the static instruments went to zero, thanks to an improperly installed valve. This probably would not have been so bad except I had just taken off with one mile of visibility and a 100 foot overcast.
